With the economy tight, everyone is looking for more cost-effective ways to celebrate holidays and Valentine’s Day is no exception. There are plenty of ways to celebrate your love for each other without making large donations to Hallmark (Americans spent $17 Billion on the holiday in 2008). The possibilities are endless, but here are a few to get your mind rolling:
The important part is showing your loved one how much they mean to you. Be creative and put some thought into it, make the evening different than a typical evening. It doesn’t have to be expensive, it only has to be meaningful.
Have you tried something that wowed in the past? Post in the comments!

Customer loyalty cards have become a staple of nearly every thrifty shopper these days. The initial intent of these cards for stores was to gather information for sales and marketing. Recent difficulties, such as the peanut butter recall that resulted in 550 illnesses and 8 deaths, have made stores re-think how they can use consumer purchasing info.
The Columbus Dispatch reports that Cincinnati-based Kroger is going to start tying in customer purchase histories, loyalty cards, and receipts to alert customers when a product they have purchased is recalled. Costco is going a step further and placing phone calls to buyers of recalled products.
It is likely that many other chains will follow suit. Some are currently using signs, but a more direct approach could alert consumers faster and prevent deaths and illnesses in another situation like we recently experienced.

A family of four in Staten Island keeps an eye glued to the ground as they walk about New York City. They are looking for coins that fall out of people’s pockets. Other people simply step over these coins, the Humpherys pick up these coins and blog about it.
So far this year, they have found $55.09. In their first three years they accumulated over $1000. It is simply amazing how quickly loose change can add up.
